I don't know exactly why, but what fixed this was changing my DSN source from the newer "SQL Server Native Client" to one just using the plain "SQL Server" driver.
I haven't seen really any SQL Server/Infopath tutorials, though youtube seems to have the most Infopath tutorials in general. For a very basic intro into setting up SQL Server on Infopath, check out this one (based on the Infopath beta):

Please let me know if come across any other helpful tutorials.

Re: First SQL Server data entry form

Hi Howard,

I know this is not the answer you are looking for, but let's just short-circuit the discussion (and your solution) and jump to the best practice: you should use a Web Service to connect with SQL. Lots of reasons. Here's a blog post with some analysis: http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/patrick/archive/2010/01/29/infopath-gaps-in-sharepoint-and-sql.aspx. I've replied to other threads too and encourage you to look for those.

Yours truly,

First SQL Server data entry form

Good morning INFOPATHdev community. Today I discovered InfoPath 2007 as a possible solution for creating data entry forms to add/delete/change data in a SQL Server 2008 database. Using the database form template, I added a SQL Server connection and then selected a table from my database. I then dragged the "Name" dataField from my data sources list into the box under the Run Query button and then clicked preview. Clicking on Run Query displayed the "Name" field from each of the records in the table. I wanted to make a change to one of the names so I fixed a typo and pressed submit but received the following message:Transaction cannot have multiple recordsets with this cursor type. Change the cursor type, commit the transaction, or close one of the recordsets. What is this message telling me? Is there a tutorial available for making SQL Server data entry/editing forms?

Thanks for reading.
