Thanks this does indeed work. the SQL db was miscoded when that was fixed all works fine.

In general, as long as the value in the XML matches one of the values in the secondary data source providing data to the drop down, the correct item will display as "selected" when you re-open the XML. Does the value you are returning from your web service differ from the value options in the drop down? Maybe some extra whitespace in the data providing the drop down list?

I have a form built which utilizes a web service to save and retreive data

I use a drop down fields to populate the form.

In cases where a user is reloading a saved form, How can i have the drop down list preselect the value that the user previously selected/saved? Essentially i want the dropdown to be selected to the last set value by the user.
