By the mean time, it this a good way to implement IP. I have read few documents in infopathdev.com and it says, use web services.

We are looking at InfoPath to replace older forms and forms that are in our way. Older forms populate database. We have recently deployed MOSS. In this scenario what would be a good solution for using InfoPath as the forms solution.

Again, I appreciate your time and help.

Re: InfoPath 2007

Hi:

When you build your form off a database, you have the opportunity to select the tables that the form will use for the main data source. You can also set up the relationships between the parent and child tables. When you submit, if you have an ID field in you master table that is auto incremented in SQL, your related child table fields should also have that value populated auto-magically.

The last screen of the data wizard will have a check box for allowing submit. If that control is disabled, it means there is (most likely) a data type in your tables that InfoPath doesn't handle, or a relationship it doesn't handle. Please read all the text in the last dialog for information as to why your form may not be able to submit.

Also, since you are new to InfoPath, I highly recommend these MSDN labs. While written for IP 2003, much of the basic information is still valid for 2007.

Hope that helps!

Re: InfoPath 2007

for the graying out of submit button, you right click on submit button and go to conditional formatting and check why the button is grayed out.

I am developing a form based on database in InfoPath2007. I have a master table and four other related table. I also have 3 other tables to populate combo box from in the form. All of my tables have <table name>Id as its primary key and they all are identity. Now for the master key, how would i create an entry using the form? It give me masterTableId as an input field, which sql server will not like if given, as of my understanding. Other 4 tables will reference master table with the masterTableId. How would i deal this? Also, my submit button is grayed out.

any help?
