I haven't attempted to use functions within IP yet, but I'll look into it. Is that something I can do without additional tools? For instance, within the date/time control, would I use a rule with a condition to use an xpath?

We're not using sharepoint svcs, and I wish our user base could upgrade, but that is, as you stated, something more for the power-that-be. Thanks again.

Re: How to auto-populate date and time from local computer?

It is built-in using the now() function, but is that disappearing when you try to add it to a 2003-compatible form? I know the userName() function, which is new for 2007, will not work if you make the form 2003-compatible, thus my inquiry.

Are you not using the forms with SharePoint? You could overcome the IP03 restriction if you were. Office 2003 is about to be 2 versions old, so it is potentially a waste of time and money to be continuing to develope 2003-based forms. I say this more for your powers-that-be than for you, although you would certainly be interested, I'm sure.

How to auto-populate date and time from local computer?

Hi all --

I'm not so much of a developer, but more a script kiddy, so sorry in advance for he n00b questions... I've worked with infopath for quite a while but mostly with the functionality that's available through the app itself. I have a form that contains the date and time control and when a user is filling out the form, I'd like that control populated with the current date and time from the local computer (e.g. windows domain time). It seems like this should be in-built functionality, but doesn't appear to be. If what I'm asking can be done in the app itself, great, but if not and I need VS .net is there an express version I could use with the infopath sdk (if the SDK is even needed)? I'm using Infopath 2007, but developing 2003 forms (most users have only 2003). Thanks in advance for any help!!
