Why not create another data connection that queries the database and filters the results based on values in the form. Then, you can bind your combo-box to this secondary data source that isn't bound to the SQL main data source.

Insert a non binded control into a binded form

Hello

I created a form binded to a database (SQL Server 2005). Most of the control I use contain information I want to save in the DB. However, I want some controls to just read data from the DB.

Example, I have a table with Risk Categories, a table with Risk SubCategories, and a table with malfunctions. Each malfunction is linked to a risk subCategory and each riskSubcategory is linked to a Risk Category. So I want to write the ID of the subCategory selected in a malfunction record but I don't need to save the category since a subCategory belongs to only one category. When I try to insert a combobox in my form, infopath forces me to choose a field to bind it to. I would like a combobox to display all the available categories but I don't want to save the category selected anywhere. Is it possible to do such thing ? Maybe I got it all wring ...

THanks for your help !
