If you made the current schema of your existing form editable, you'd be able to rename the field that has the old name instead of adding a new field... then you'd still have your 'itunes' namespace... If you want to try making your schema editable, I did a blog post on that the other week and you can find it here. May save you some time. Mainly what you need to do is save your form as source files, open manifest.xsf with a text editor, and change the editability property for the schema. The info on that is toward the end of the post under the heading Another Solution.

Re: Default Field Name (not value)

Thanks for the help; I'm fairly new at all this (obviously).

My use of InfoPath may be a little unconventional. I needed a way to easily create XML data for a podcast and RSS feed, and from the little I knew about InfoPath, it seemed like an easy route. I grabbed XML data from another podcast feed and used it as a template to populate InfoPath. iTunes requires tags that are always along the lines of "itunes:author" or something similar. It has worked great for quite a while. However, I need to change the URL for the feed, and iTunes requires the following tag: <itunes:new-feed-url>. Since I had not created any new fields since the original import of the sample data, this is the first time I have run across this problem.

I am fairly new to XML schemas as well, but your help will certainly get me moving in the right direction. Thank you so much!

Re: Default Field Name (not value)

Hi, and welcome!

'my' is the default namespace used by InfoPath when you create your schema in the form designer. You can create your own schema outside of InfoPath, however, and import it into your form to have the namespace of your choice. Here's a little more info on that.

I confess, I'm curious what you are working on that has a field name requirement that involves use of the ':' character....

Default Field Name (not value)

Okay, this may be a dumb question, but it has stumped me so far. When creating a new field, I specify the name, but the new tag is always listed as "my:name" instead of just name. How do I change the "my:" section to be something else? I need a tag that has two parts with a ":" in between, but of course, the ":" symbol is not allowed... even though it is being added automatically to all new fields. What am I missing?
