Thanks for the reply, again.

I have been poking around in the web site. And am starting to get an idea of what I have to go through. I have looked at XML, at the transforms. I think that is what you are referring to, when you say XSL. The site referred to XSLT. Which I thought was going in the right direction. Have yet to progress there.

But, I am puzzled how to even get from InfoPath Print View to a XML file? Do you know anything there that may help me?

I have drifted away from my task for a bit, waiting for my client to sign off on what I have done.

They DO NOT want an InfoPath Print view document. They cannot finish off the processing with InfoPath forms. Well, the need to cut and paste data from other applications. Make each line of text "fill" the line, Have long variables wrap across several lines. And other issues of course.

So, please can you help me to begin getting this InfoPath Print view to WORD print view process working.

I now have WindowsXP Professional on my computer. I do not have Adobe acrobat, yet. I cannot download the DBXLT, or qrules yet. I need to work. Without ( it seems) sleep to get this project finished by next week.

So all clues and assistance are greatly welcomed.

Many thanks again, for what you have said in the past. But please can you provide something to give me cofidence to actually complete the task.
The client wants to move away from the InfoPath now, and just use the MS Access database to construct WORD documents.

Regards, and looking forward to receiving more help

The example in the SDK is a good track to be on. I have no idea what XSL you are talking about. You will have to create one or maybe use one from the SDK example. Anyway, the XSL file that maps from your XML schema into Word is going to be the pain in the neck to create. If you have one, you are on your way. Not sure you have one though since there are many XSLs out there and you just can't use some random one. In other words, you can't save your XSN source files and use the View1.XSL from your InfoPath form. That's not going to work as it is the wrong XSL. It's not an XSL that will get your data into Word. It's the XSL that InfoPath uses to display your XML data in InfoPath.

IP 2007 is definitely going to be the better bet for you, but like I said above, creating these is very difficult. We have done them before, but we hate doing them. It's a lot of work. Very advanced topic. We don't even have this in our Advanved training class.

If you are really serious about doing this, you need to a) realize it could take many weeks to figure it out (since you have no experience), and b) consider hiring someone like us for a couple hours to help you do a sample and then you can adapt that sample for your own form.

Cheers!

Re: Hello, Can anyone tell me how to generate an xslt document

Hello Patrick.

I am browsing around the folders set up and. or used by InfoPath. I noticed an xslt, an smd and other files in some obscure folder. They related to my current InfoPath form, same date and data too.

What I am trying to understand here is, following the SDK(2003), the fiels are now set up automatically.

FIRSLY, is that correct?

SECONDLY, I fumbled around trying to follow the SDK instructions, But seemed to make no progress. Apart from one of my table names in some display.

I could not get past that.

AM I on the right track? PLEASE advise.

Is the 2007 InfoPath more enhanced, for this sort of work?

Re: Hello, Can anyone tell me how to generate an xslt document

Thanks greatly for the reply Patrick,

I just issued a question out to hilary.

I will let you know how I went.

This is an advanced topic and requires some expertise using Visual Studio or XML Spy. It's very difficult to debug XSLTs without the proper tool. you should Google "XSLT editor" and see what comes up. There are a bunch out there. The SDK is definitely a good place to begin. This will take you some time. There's no quick fix here. You'll have to go through the swamp before you get the oasis. We have done this before several times and it takes us ~20 hours per print view. It's a pain in the neck to do it but it can be done. If you need some professional help, you can retain us to do the work if you want. Otherwise, make sure you put your boots on and be patient. This is not something that is easy to do.

Hello, Can anyone tell me how to generate an xslt document

Or whatever it is that I need to enable WordPrint View.

I do not have any documents like that on my system, and it seems no one knows either, or wnat to help.

I gave up on the 2003 SDK, after download this morning, and having run issues
Surely something simpler that the 2007 SDK version down could work?

The path to setting up Word print view, I believe is to download SDK then, setup permissions, or whatever.

I am not using Sharepoint. But I would like to know, and get used to using WordPrint View.

Please help someone!!!
