We have an Excel spreadsheet which contains our Engineering Change Tracking log. It is used to track the critical data about every Engineering Change we process. I wrote a few easy to use VB dialog boxes for users to maintain & search the data in the spreadsheet. One user has created her own spreadsheets which reads in the data. The biggest problem I have is that Excel Shared Workbooks have proven to be very problematic for us. So, currently, only one user can open the tracking log spreadsheet at any one time. THIS SHOULD BE A PERFECT APPLICATION FOR A SHAREPOINT LIST \ INFOPATH FORM.

I have exported the spreadsheet to a sharepoint list. (No Problems)

I have been able to replace most of the functionality of my VB dialog boxes with standard SharePoint functionality. (Minor issues)

I have been able to address the other spreadsheets linking into it for data.

My biggest problem MUST have a simple answer;

How can I get the numeric tracking number to default to the next one when someone creates a new EC?

Is there a simple way to create an InfoPath form that uses this list as it's primary data source? With Infopath, I should be able to create an input form that will blow my old Excel VB dialog boxes out of the water.

Suggestions? Thank You...
