CAML stands for Collaborative Application Markup Language. It's an XML syntax you can use to express *lots* of things related to SharePoint: queries, entities definition (lists, views, fields, content types ...), even the way things get rendered in the browser.

Plus, you can use CAML to express a "command" that con be issued against sharepoint and perform a multitude of tasks.

For your specific need, you can find a complete and well-explained example here: http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2007/03/26/submitting-to-a-sharepoint-list.aspx

HTH

Ciao

Re: Can IP 2007 submit it's data to a sharepoint list?

Hi Clay,

Many thanks for the quick response! I haven't actually tried it yet, I've been reading the help pages and read somewhere that it couldn't submit to a list, only publish the forms to a doc library. I didn't want to spend hours getting to grips with the software again if it didn't do that one thing because that's the main purpose we need it for.

I'll have a play over the weekend now I have your word that it does lol

Excuse my ignorance but what's a CAML ?

Julie :-)

You can insert and update SharePoint lists with both versions but you must use a CAML.

You may be reffering to promoted properties on a library where the forms are submitted. That is still the same you just need to go to form options and promoted properties.

Can IP 2007 submit it's data to a sharepoint list?

I used Infopath 2003 and loved it for it's ability to save the data to a Sharepoint List as it made use of the data input by users and gave us a list we could manipulate into views etc.

I have just downloaded 2007 and it appears that you can only EXTRACT from a sharepoint list but not submit to it???

Am I missing something?

I work for a fairly large UK organisation and I have solutions that I considered Infopath perfect for, but I have to admit I'm a bit perplexed as to why Infopath 2007 has gone backwards?

Any advice seriously appreciated
