rowColor = (count(preceding-sibling::myRepeatingSection) + 1) mod 2

Then, set the conditional formatting for the repeating section to color if rowColor <> 0

count( preceding-sibling::myRepeatingSection)+1 returns the rowNumber
x mod y returns the remainder of x/y. When y=2, odd numbers will return a remainder >0. Even numbers will return a 0.

You have to use a repeating section with the "header" outside of the section. Repeating tables don't work; I can only guess because the conditional formatting property applies to the entire control, a repeating table doesn't know what to do.

-smaus

***UPDATE: Tested and you can use a Repeating table but you cannot have headers or footers in it.

Re: Alternate line shading in repeating table

thanks!

The formula method I would normally use in my web development (php, cold fusion, lasso) would be to do a row_number() mod 2. But, we don't have the operator "mod" available it seems. That makes it difficult.

Re: Alternate line shading in repeating table

OK I thought there was already something on this specifically but I did not find it either.

Here is one http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/greg/archive/2004/11/18/Assign-an-Autogenerated-Row-Number-to-a-Repeating-Field.aspx

Which talks about how to use position() to get the row number.

Here is another http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/examples/entry277.aspx

http://www.infopathdev.com/blogs/greg/archive/2004/07/08/Identify-the-Current-Table-Row.aspx

Once you have a row number then you just need conditional formatting to be true for each odd or even. I am not sure what the method would be here, it will probably take some trial and error.

Worst case would be to make a seperate list of odd numbers up to the amount you think you would have displayed in your form table and then have where these matched highlight but I think there should be a formula solution but do not have time at the moment to experiment.

Good Luck

Re: Alternate line shading in repeating table

anyone have a link to this? I've searched and can't find it.

thanks!

Re: Alternate line shading in repeating table

Thanks, Clay. Could you point me to their blogs? I tried a user search, but their names were not found.

Re: Alternate line shading in repeating table

Yes.

I believe Greg or Matt might have a blog post on this.

I believe you use row number and make odds or even a color with conditional formating.

Alternate line shading in repeating table

Greetings!

Is it possible to alternate line shading in a repeating table?

Thanks,
Todd
