Yeah I don't think it matter really who is completing form. Just who created it. As How it works is this.

An individual creates a form and fills in the top information. Once it is done they submit it and it dispatches an email to a person. The person then comes in and just fills out a response. At the bottom they can see who initially created the form or request in this instance, which is why would pull the created by field in the list.

I would like to see a demo if possible that would be good!

I could probably get you a wii at cost. Been crazy with supply lately, havent gotten any new ones in since before christmas. Damn supply and demand :)

Re: Infopath 2003 + Sharepoint

Ok from looking at the screen shots I think I understand what you are doing.

I think your bigger need is you want to know who is completing the form.

If you knew who the user was filling the form then that could be stored within it.

The answer is a Active Directory Web Service. This will give you the current user and you can look up their email, manager, everything without code. You could fill in their department and location for example. Also then you have a better audit trail if that is important. Do you have approvals or any work flow?

I am actually helping another company with likely a similar compliance process. If you would like to see a demo of what they are doing I could show you.

can you get me a good deal on a Wii?

Re: Infopath 2003 + Sharepoint

ok I understand. Just one last question. is there something to designate file as currentfile. The file wouldn't be known unless opened, as forms will be created all the time once they fill out a request form. So I wouldn't know ahead of time what files name is as tons would be created. So how would i know what the filename is ?

I really do appreciate the help, sorry if i sound a little dense. Really knew to this.

Re: Infopath 2003 + Sharepoint

It really does not matter what the field type is, the principle is the same.

Once you know the filename you want then when you add the field use the filter button in the lower left to set it for title = filename. Then you will see the record where the filter is true.

Re: Infopath 2003 + Sharepoint

Hey Clay,

Thanks for quick response. It isnt the dates' i wish to input in. It is the Created By (Name of person who created the list entry), not the dates per se. The dates are irrelevant. Really, here are some pictures to show u what I mean. Picture would help I assume.

Image one shows the document library. Image 2 shows what is displayed. Image 3 shows that it does infact list all the items in a repeating box. What I want to do though is have the first item in a single text box display the Created By individual for that specified file.

www.wiinjamod.com/1.JPG

I REALLY appreciate the help, thanks.

The quick and easy method is to store the name in the form so you can filter your list for this information.

I will assume you are creating a form name by concatenating some fields together.

Add one new field to your form called formname.

Set a rule on open that if formname is blank (new form) use the current concat in your submit to store the filename there.

Then modify your Sharepoint submit to just use the formname field.

Then when you display your created and modified add a filter which [title=formname] and you will have the related dates.

Re: Infopath 2003 + Sharepoint

I can see what is going on, but can't figure it out. So pretty much when i create the secondary data connection, it is pulling ALL the items in the list, and displaying them all (if u create a repeating table) But if u have a single text box it only displays the first item in the list. I guess I am trying to figure out how to make it so it selects the item of the current file opened (file = list items).

I have 3 list items with 3 fields title, created by, modified by.

Examples:

title1,created1,modified1

title2,created2,modified2

title3,created3,modified3

All the forms when opened will always show a specific list section. So if I open title2, it will still show the information say title3,created3,modified3 within the form. It will do this no matter how many items are there. It is consistent it will always show information from one specific form. What I want it to do is show it's correct information. So if I open title2 file, i want it to show title2, created2, modified2.

I am creating a secondary data connection to pull the information. If I create a repeating text box, I can see it lists all the information correctly for each list item, now all i need is for it to select that specific current file it is open.

Any Ideas? I am new to this. Thank you
