Yes, if you are going to create browser forms, you would need to upgrade to Office 2007, which includes InfoPath 2007. Regular InfoPath forms can be designed in IP2003 and deployed in SP2007. SharePoint does not include InfoPath or any tools for form development.

For your second question the default InfoPath database functionality only allows one table group to be queried and submitted to. You need Web Services to do more than that. You should check out the Database Accelerator download.Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.1 - Developer

It includes prebuilt and installable web services, which you can use immediately, without code.

InfoPath with database interaction is the best model in my opinion and the Database Accelerator tools makes it much easier, faster, and more powerful.

a) Office2007 (that is infopath 2007) to publish the forms to the Sharepoint 2007 server and run in a browser.

-- Is this correct? If so, does that mean that I must have infopath 2007 on my desktop? Will Sharepoint 2007 have a client that I could use to develop the infopath forms? If I need to have my office suit updated to 2007, I will need lead time to have procurement purchase the software.

b) This next question may be a bit advanced but...Using infopath 2003, I tried using a primary datasource (MS Access) to set up fields with a pull down. The idea here is that the detail table would be populated with codes based on a code table (the code table has the description for that code). Sooo, the detail table as an example might have a name code for the person who is responsible for the action. The code and name of the person resides in a master table. For adding a new record the pull down would show the name, but when the form was submitted the code would populate the detail table. Can this be done by only using the infopath basics or do I need to write vb code to make this work? Will infopath 2007 have an advanced features that might make this an easier task so I will eventually be developing using infopath 2007?

Any help here is greatly appreciated. More questions are sure to follow but I need to get through certain gates before I can continue.

Chip
