I am not sure how it is doing it but yes something in the wizard must enable the four rows to be mimiced. I have not used the import wizard with such a form.

Does it show four in the designer? I would also check your datasource and see if there are some blank values in your datafields, that may be why it is showing four rows.

My thought would be to insert the repeating group again as a repeating table and see if it does the same thing. I do not think it would. If that is the case then yes you would need to modify the new repeating table to replace the one created in the import. You could check the form code on load and for the section for any code as an alternative but my guess it is some blank values.

Re: Changing repeating row after Word template import

Clay,

Thanks for replying but I think you are misunderstanding me.

I currently have a repeating table - but rather than the standard view I want ,which is a single row. When I go to fill the form it is giving me FOUR blank rows.

When importing the form from the word template - does InfoPath insert custom code which has made this table auto-insert 4 blank rows for me? If so - can I undo this change without starting with a fresh table??

You would want to make the group repeating, in properties, and bind the repeating table or section to it.

Typically with a repeating table the header and footer, if applicable would be visible but any data entered or only one blank row of data would be shown until they select to insert additional rows or use CTRL+Enter. You can use code to insert additional rows upon opening a new form if it is a strong requirment that four be visible and there should be example on the site here. If it is a formatting issue you can put the repeating section or table within a scrolling section. This way your layout on the page will be the same no matter how much data is entered or not in the repeating table.

Changing repeating row after Word template import

I imported a form designed in Word, which had 4 blank rows in it to indicate that the table was repeating.

In design view it shows a single row which is repeating, but when I preview it, it displays four empty rows. I would however, like to just display a single row which the user can then add to.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find an option anywhere which says how many rows to display to the user when they are filling out the form, as in all likelihood, the end user will only need to do one or two rows - not four.

I have done quite a lot of customization on this form before I realized this was a problem and hence don't want to start fresh from importing the template again.

Surely there is an option to change this somewhere??

Thank you in advance for any help!
