Agni Jonnalagadda:

MSWord does not give an proper XML which you can parse through it. Best way is to prepare the XML in a notepad and save it as .xml file.

I'll give this a try.

Agni Jonnalagadda:

" One more thing If you add sentenses in an XML and bind it to a dropdown, your dropdown will not be able to show complete values."

Yeah, this I'm aware of - so what I've done is to put the values from a ddl into a text box, via a conditional format.

nukkumatti:

No No not a good idea to create xml files with word :) Why not using the ultimate tool for that, InfoPath itself: have look here this should get you started or even more: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/1912/8252.aspx#8252 . Please don't get me wrong now but a little invenstigation in searching the froum and I guess you would have found a bunch of information on your topic. Anyway hope it helps.

Sorry brother - I certainly did do some basic research, but I didn't find it because I typed drop down list, instead of ddl - I got to get up to speed with the lingo around these parts. :)

THANK YOU for that link because that worked perfectly.

One of my dropdown list's values has to come from an XML document. I was told to do so because the values are really long (sentence/paragraph lengths).

Since I don't know a thing about schemas or XML documents, etc., I did this: Opened a new word document. Inserted the following three "values" if you will (for the purposes of illustrating it here, each value starts with an - the - is not in the XML document):
- Monthly interest payments only shall be payable until Maturity, at which time entire principal amount and any outstanding interest and other charges will be due.

- Monthly interest payments will be funded from advances under the loan. On each Interest Accrual Date, accrued interest shall be added to the outstanding principal amount of the Loan and shall thereafter accrue interest at the applicable Interest Rate.

- Monthly payments of principal and interest calculated on mortgage-style, direct reduction basis amortized over 30 years, with outstanding principal and outstanding interest due at Maturity.

I saved this document as an XML document.

In the Drop Down List properties, I clicked on List Box Entries = Look up values in a data connection to a database, Web Service, file, or SharePoint Library or list

I click on Data connection, ADD. In the dialogue box, it states that I can receive data from an XML document, database, Web Service, file, or SharePoint Library or list. It asks me from where do I want to receive the data. I click on XML document, then click Next and browse my computer for where I saved my XML document (the one above). It accepts it. Now I'm back to the Drop Down List's properties. When I click on Apply, it gives me an error message telling me that "You must select a repeating group or field from the data source to create entries for the list box". What in the world does that mean? When I go to the "Entries" section to select such a repeating group of field, it gives me this:

Select a Field or a Group

- wordDocument

          macrosPresent

          embedded ObjPresent

          ocxPresent

   +o:DocumentProperties

   +fonts

   +lists

   +styles

   +docPr

   +body

What am I supposed to do at this point? I haven't a clue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I click on any of those things above with an + it just keep opening up other folders, and they can go on and on and on and on and on........I don't know where I'm supposed to do at this point.

Thanks a lot.
