I already ordered the MS InfoPath book; I guess I need to invest a little more time to understand the IP concepts, so far I only followed the path of least resistance and maximum intuitivity ;-)

It is good to hear that my task is feasible.

Cheers,

moestavern

Re: Is this possible in InfoPath

Hi Stefan, Welcome!

This is definitely feasible in InfoPath. You can create a Database form from your SQL Express Table and then display this list on your form.

Since you want an XML product you will want to just save the final InfoPath form probably. So you could create a group in your form schema to contain the selected row data.

So as you choose the rows from your SQL table a button could be used to insert the Product Number and Description into your repeating group in the form itself.

Otherwise you may want to look at the database accelerator. Qdabra Database Accelerator Suite Version 2.0 - Developer

This give you all the webservices to interact with your DB. So you can use the Active Directory service to get the user name of the person making the order and then put their name and their orders into another table in your DB.

This would make the orders a bit easier to track, control, or interface with another system. Also it would allow you to view order summary totals by users and other reporting metrics.

Let us know how it goes.

Is this possible in InfoPath

Hi all,

I am totally new to Infopath, and I am actually not quite sure if InfoPath is actually able to help me solve my problem. So let me outline what I want to do, and maybe you can comment on the feasibility in Infopath.

I have a local SQL Server Express which holds one database table "Products". My form should be able to

1) Search for products by id and description

2) Present the query result in a list

3) Enable the enduser to pick one of the lines from the query result list, and add this line to another list with the possibility to additionally enter an amount for this product (repeat steps 1-3)

4) In the end, the user should press a button, and the resulting list he has built (basically, a list of products he wants to order) is submitted/extracted to a (csv, xls, xml) file

It could look lke this:

Product ID

Description

1234

15 inch Monitor

5678

17 inch Monitor

1234

15 inch Monitor

I already got to the point to have a custome query which produces the 2 row tabel from above. But how do I

- select a line from this table and append the line values to my order list ?

- in the end submit my order list to a file, not an email or webservice ? When submitting to email, I saw the XML gets attached to the email. I'd be happy If i could just get the XML file without the email.

Thanks in advance and cheers

stefan
