Whatever table you have the repeating control bound to is the one that will be accurate. The other referenced (I'm assuming its the secondary source) table will likely always show the 1st row for every row of the main table. That's because you have no way of referencing into the secondary table to pull the correct value.

What you need to do is add an UniqueId field into to your repeating tables. That way you have a key field with which to filter the secondary table for the correct row.

Re: Lookup Values in Repeating Table Fields

I apologize for any confusion. Here's the short of it... I have two fields. One is a primary data source field and the other is a secondary data source field. Both fields are copies of the same identical repeating table.

What I do is create a daily copy of the primary data and use it as a secondary data source the next day's form. Then, I run conditional formatting analyzing the two field's values on that same one form. I'm basically testing to see whether or not today's data changes from yesterday's.

So, there are two fields in one repeating data cell. (Primary and Secondary) How does Infopath recognize which row I'm attempting to reference?

I currently only have the ability of referencing the first row's data, instead of matching up row for row from both data sources.

I hope this makes more sense and thanks for any help!

Javier

Re: Lookup Values in Repeating Table Fields

You said that there were 2 fields in your repeating table... it sounds like, let's say, field2 has conditional formatting based on field1. If both fields are children of the repeating table, the you should be able to do "../field1". It doesn't matter if field1 has a drop-down list box bound to it which pulls values from a secondary data source... just the selected value in field1.

However, if field1 is not a child of the repeating table and is really a secondary data source, then you'll need to find some other way to do this.

Re: Lookup Values in Repeating Table Fields

Just to clarify, the table I would like to lookup is a secondary data source. (../../d:LCG_PRIMARY2/d:LCG_MATRIX2/@CLASS) The "2" is the secondary portion.

So if i change the field to "../@Class" I don't think Infopath knows which @Class field I'm referencing. (Data Source 1 or 2)

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Lookup Values in Repeating Table Fields

Maybe not. What I've done is set the conditional formatting and also the default value using the set field menu where you hand select the field from the data source.

I attempted your solution, but I'm a little lost still.

Here is the original xpath: ../../d:LCG_PRIMARY2/d:LCG_MATRIX2/@CLASS

I attempted to change the path to ../../d:LCG_PRIMARY2/d:LCG_MATRIX2/../@CLASS
and it's giving me errors.

FYI - I have created a copy of the authoritative data in SQL as LCG_PRIMARY2. It is an exact copy of all the data from my orginal form. I'm using this copied data to run comparative analysis in my Infopath form.

As always thanks for all of your help!

Re: Lookup Values in Repeating Table Fields

sounds like you are not using relative paths.
For example your conditional formatting is probably testing a path something like: /Root/Table/Row/OtherField instead of ../OtherField.

When you do this, you always end up at the first row.

Lookup Values in Repeating Table Fields

I have a repeating table with 2 fields placed inside each cell. I'm doing some conditional formatting, where one field will react depending on the other fields value.

Problem: When filling out the form, clicking on the insert new row link gives me the output of the fields based on the 1st rows data. For instance if the first row has a "U" as the field. Then after clicking the insert new row button, the second row shows formatting based on the first rows "U" value, instead of attaching itself to the second row's (new/blank row) value.

I would like the fields to format themselves based on the unique values in every cell.

I have the data connected to a SQL Database. It saves data correctly when I take out the value lookup in the conditional formatting section.

I hope this makes sense... thanks for any help!

Javier
