If so, try moving it to a secondary data source. Also, consider changing your view so that InfoPath doesn't have to create all of the values in the dropdown at the beginning - either use cascading dropdown or some conditional show-hide.

Finally, you could switch to another view, do the query, and then have a button to switch back. That might be a bad user experience, but at least you'll understand where the perf hit is going.

Re: Multitask Issue

You might try poping up a dialog box before the query to instruct the user that this will take some time, and to be patient.

Multitask Issue

During a view switch I do a large SQL hit bring back a lot of data. This causes the infopath form to seem like its froze up, but in reality I'm building some drop-downs etc. I would like to display a status bar in the task pane to let users know that everything is OK.

From my understanding the infopath form and task pane are running in the same thread. This is why my setInverval(function, ##) is not running during the SQL hit.

I then tried to have my javascript call my managed-code and create a new thread to switch the view, but I ran into an exception because I was trying to change a UI element inside of a thread. Rats ...

Has anyone ran into this problem before, and if so how did you go about solving it? Thanks in advance!
