Only schemas built directly in InfoPath (yeah, yeah, you could argue that it was -- but that was from a different form) are editable.

Now-- one thing you can do, is extract the form files from both forms (the one with the editable schema, and the one without), and then compare the differences in the manifest.xsf file for each. I don't recall off hand what they are, but there are a small number of key differences that cause the lock.

If you attempt to do this with a schema that uses a namespace other than "my:", then weird things can happen. This is not recommended.

In fact, this is an advanced process, not for the light-hearted. Be sure to back up your form before trying this.

Freeing a locked Schema

Hello all,

Here is the scenario. One person with the same version of InfoPath as I sent me a schema to use. I successfully loaded this from the "New from XML Documen or Schema...". However, the schema is locked from editing.

I performed an experiment where I exported the schema from one of my forms and tried importing it into a fresh form. That schema was locked as well.

I would like to be able to edit the schema in InfoPath. I did a search on the forum for similar issues.
<br /http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=649&SearchTerms=locked,schema

It talks about placing :xsd in front of the elements, which this is already done.

Can imported InfoPath created schemas be edited by another Infopath form?

Help will be well appreciated.
