Get the value from the dropdown box(field1)(inRepeatingsection)into this field. Now set this value from the text box(field3) outside the repeating section into the text box(field2) in the repeating section. Now if you do not want to show this field(field3) in the UI you can remove this field but it continues to exist in the datasource.

In this way the populated value in the first section is always shown when the section is repeated.

I hope this helps you.

Re: Auto Populating fields in repeating sections

OK, If you create a repeating section, add a dropdown box, that enables you to select a country from a secondary data file. Then create a rule that populates the selected value to another text field.

Now create another section, both the dropdown box and the opoulated text field are blank in the repeated section.

At least that what I see?

What I want is for the selected value in the dropdown box and the value populated in the text field to be copied into each repeated section.
Re: Auto Populating fields in repeating sections

Hello,
I performed this step and is working fine as per your description. The value is shown in all the repeated text box when the section is repeated.
What do you want to populate exactly? Always populate the first selected value in the drop down? or change the value as the drop down value changes when this section with dropdown is repeated?

Auto Populating fields in repeating sections

I am trying to copy the value stored in a drop down box into another field as its default value.

This is very easy however both fields are in a repeating section. If I select, for example, a country in my drop down box, and populate anothe field with that country value. When I repeat the section the populated value is not carried over into the repeated section.

Is there any way to populate a field once in the first section, and to keep this value in all other repeated sections?
