thanks for coming back to me.
First question: There is about max 10 hazards and max 10 mitigations per activity.
Second question: I do not have a rule yet on the button, but thought if you select the activities from a multiple selection field, it can query the SharePoint lists for the hazards and mitigations where their activity = one of the activities selected in the multiple selection box
Regarding your question: EDITED TO ADD - your sample form has the hazards & mitigations from the secondary data source. Do you just need a way to display the data for the selected activity? If so, this is actually not too difficult. - I can retrieve the hazard and mitigations for one activity - but the problem comes in, if I have to select more than one activity.

Re: Populate field with what was selected in SharePoint list repetitively

For your first question on selecting an activity and then auto-populating the repeating child data, that can be tricky in InfoPath, because there is no out of the box way to insert rows via rules. Do you have an idea of the max number of Hazards & Mitigations per Activity? If so, we may be able to use default data to accomplish this. As to your second idea - what are the rules on your button? EDITED TO ADD - your sample form has the hazards & mitigations from the secondary data source. I've uploaded the form. You'll see there is a section to select the activity. Once the activity is selected the repeating sections for Hazzard and Mitigation should be populated based on Activity selected. Once that is done, the user should be able to add another section to select another activity that will populate the hazzards and mitigations for that activity. The user should be able to add as many activities as needed. (Please ignore the Dept, Division and Approver connections - that was for testing purposes.)

Re: Populate field with what was selected in SharePoint list repetitively

Any chance you can attach your form under the Options tab in a reply? I have to create an Infopath form. I have 3 lists in my SharePoint Online,

1. List Activities list all activities.
2. List Hazzard list all hazzards, per activity. (one activity = many hazzards)
3. List Mitigation list all mitigations, per activity (one activity = many mitigations)

So in Infopath, I create a dropdown list that shows activities, once the necessary activity has been selected a repetitive table list all Hazzards for that Activity. (upon selection of activity, I query the hazzard table to list all hazzards linked to that activity selected) The same should happen with mitigation - list all mitigations based on activity selected.

But this form needs to enable the user to select unlimited activities and for each activity selected, that activity's hazards and mitigations should be listed. So the above needs to be in a repetitive section. But when I repeat the section and select activity in next section, it refreshes all activities and hazards and mitigations in all sections with the one selected.

I saw a similar post, but it does not really cover what I need to do. http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/31742/118044.aspx#118044
