Regardless, I'd use a dropdown for the device (maybe, unless there are a whole slew of them) so that the user doesn't accidentally get the device wrong (XML is case sensitive, so if I typed in "DEVICE A" that is not going to be the same thing as Device A). If you want, attach a copy of your form to a reply (under the options tab) and I can give you a hand with it.

Creating a Simple Lookup Form from a Separate Sharepoint List

Hello-

I'm new to Infopath/Sharepoint and am looking to create a very simple lookup form where a user can key in a device code, click "Search", and the form returns the name of the user assigned to that device. I have the full list of devices and the users they're assigned to saved on a separate Sharepoint list, imported from an Excel sheet where column A has the unique device name and column B the user assigned to that device. I have been able to create the data connection, but for the life of me cannot figure out the rules and/or filters to run a simple query against that list.

My form has two text boxes and one button (optional). Can somebody help explain what rule(s) I need to put on the box where the user enters the device name, and what rule(s) I need to build on the box where the user name will be returned?
