The data connection will have the ID field in it and it is required, so you should be able to simply set the value of the field to the ID. I recommend using that as the main field in your form (not the display) and lookup the display using a filter.

Dropdowns do this automatically. Just right click properties, go in and set the value to be the ID and the display to be the display field.

hello

our current system:

Sharepoint 2010 + Infopath 2010

Currently connect to a SP list to read in department names and show in infopath dropdown list

Problem:

Department name changes often and the users do not have write access to the form - because they are now associated to the new department name.

Desired solution

Automatically update the department name in the form when the SP dept List is updated.

Approach

Use workflow to update the dept name in form. Based on the dept ID (unique ID associated to each element in list) look up dept name in form, if different from dept name in SP List, I update

Question

In addition to reading in the dept name (to the form) how do I also read in the ID? When the user selects the dept name, I would also like to save the ID to a field to be later used in my workflow.
