I have a form published to our sharepoint server, which is an evaluation form for call center agents. There are multiple criteria, which all have the same three options (Objective Met, Not Met, and Not Applicable). based on the option selected a value is assigned (via rules) to two text boxes, bound to fields; possible score and total score, as well as a comments text box.

For each evaluation criteria I have a table with those options and a group with those fields in them. This logic all works just fine.

In order to be able to adjust the value of each criteria or the content, instead of being coded right into the form, the sections where the evaluation criteria name and details are 'Calculated Values' controls and pull the information from a sharepoint list. To accomplish this I have a group containing my 4 fields for each criteria, and a table for each criteria (so each is laid out identically), it pulls the name and criteria value from the sharepoint list when the form loads. This all works just fine.

Here's where it gets a bit complicated: I wanted to make it so management can add criteria to the list, simply by adding items to the sharepoint list. To do this, I set up each table (criteria) in it's own 'section', for which I use a formatting rule to hide that section if there is not an item with that ID# in the sharepoint list. There are now 20 groups with 4 fields each and 20 sections that hide if there is no information in the list for them. This also works great, except when I apply the 'field cannot be blank option' to the selections, so the user don't miss an answer, it expects the hidden sections to be answered as well.

So here's where I'm stuck. If I hide the field, it still wants an answer. I discovered if I select 'do not include this section in the form by default', then it works the way I want. but that's not ideal because it requires modification to the form to change the criteria. What I'm looking for is a way to programatically include or exclude a section (not just hide it), based on whether a row exists in a list. I've only been able to hide it. I tired just adding a default value to the fields and then applying a rule that if it's not above that number to show a message, but it doesn't seem to prevent submission, or the rule is not running - I can't get that option to work.

Sorry it's so lengthy, I just wanted to be a clear as I could.

Thanks in advance.
