I have followed the steps from:

http://spcoder.blogspot.com/2012/11/spell-check-for-infopath-form-in.html

http://tim-roberts.blogspot.com/2011/10/spell-check-within-infopath-2010.html

http://sharepointisland.wordpress.com/2012/10/25/spell-checker-for-infopath-based-internet-explorer-forms/

I end up with a partially working spell checker but none of them will read Rich Text boxes.

By using:

http://geekswithblogs.net/JeremyRamos/Default.aspx

I am able to get it to search Rich Text boxes but I lose the ribbon as it is using a very stripped down formserver.aspx, Jeremy's solution appears to be for 2007.

I'm even willing to buy a server side solution/service if need be if it's reasonably priced. Does anyone have any solutions or products that I can buy to provide IE end users the ability ot spell check infopath forms without having to install a client based tool?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Spell Checker on infopath enabled forms

How about this for a solution:

http://tim-roberts.blogspot.com/2011/10/spell-check-within-infopath-2010.html

You get a spell check icon that uses the builtin sharepoint spell checker. No programs to load. The only problem is that it does't work on enhanced multi-line fields.

Re: Spell Checker on infopath enabled forms

Hi jchilde,

please have a look at:

http://geekswithblogs.net/scavanagh/articles/how-to--spell-check-an-infopath-form-displayed-via.aspx

Even if the title of this article talks about "...displayed via XmlFormView..." you can use the same technique if you don´t want to use the XmlFormView-Control. I have realized this a few months ago and it works pretty well...

Just another option... :-)

Don´t implement the spell checker by your self... Since the old sharepoint forms didn't have spell check, I sometimes encourage people to use google toolbar in my department. The only thing I think is that if there is a whole lot of text, it will tell you that it could only check the the first xx words. I think that was google that does that. Also, I personally have started using Google's browser more and more and it underlines text as you go which is awesome.

Regards,

Re: Spell Checker on infopath enabled forms

Quick reply for now:

I am becoming somewhat disenchanted with Sharepoint becuase it seems that I have to accept some tradeoffs to make things work.

In my current application, I have a notes list. Each note needs to have a doctor assigned. A separate list contains doctors and I have a lookup column to support linking the doctor. So, when you click to add new note, the OOB sharepoint form is perfect unless you need to add a new doctor that is not in the list. I can put a link to add a new doctor in the form, but cannot update the drop-down column without refreshing the entire form. This means that data saved to the form will be lost.

So, I turned to OOB custom infopath forms and this would allow me to re-query the drop-down data source, but then I loose the ability to spell check my notes.

So, then I turned to qrules and attempted to create a totally new form that acts like the newitem.aspx form; however, the form stops working after about a day. I use a data connection library to make the connection to the form and originally input the location using an externally accessible URL. However, after about a day or so, this URL is converted to an internal URL. Thus, my form becomes unuseable outside of the local site. Any idea why this would occur?

Re: Spell Checker on infopath enabled forms

Hi JChilde,

No solution that I know of. Browser forms don't support everything. The problem with speller on the server is exacerbated by languages and locales. On the client, Microsoft Office is installed and it knows the default language. Applications like Word are smart and use auto-language detection to determine where to start and stop the spell checking. InfoPath just assumes the default language. That's the issue on the server - which language to choose. I suppose you could look at the language of the browser but in general it's tricky. Auto-langauge detection typically doesn't work well for short sentences either.

Sorry tha this isn't supported. Have you considered using Terminal Services?

Spell Checker on infopath enabled forms

I have been trying to figure out why spell checker is disabled on infopath forms in Sharepoint.
