As long as you don&#39;t mind the inconvenience your users will experience by having to install the certificate on their machine prior to using the new template, this solution will work.

Re: opening 2003 xml forms in 2010

<p>We had the same certificate error when going from 2003 to 2010.&nbsp; The short answer is no.&nbsp; As an aside, if you access any other office file (.docx,.xlsm, etc.) from your form,&nbsp; that file needs to be in a trusted location.&nbsp; </p>

I have hundreds of users all over the country that are currently running infopath 2003 on Windows XP machines with MSOffice 2003. We are in the process of migrating to Windows 7 with MSOffice 2010. They need to be able to copy or move their xml forms (which contain javascript code) to any location (laptop, thumbdrive, email etc etc), and when they submit the form, it will connect to a webservice, which in turn dumps into a sql database.

We are running Office InfoPath 2003 Toolkit for Visual Studio 2005 with the Microsoft Office InfoPath SP1 installed.

I use the regform.exe something like this

regform /V 1.0.0.0 /T Yes /O c:\work\Something\Temp c:\work\Something\Template\Temp.xsn

Everything registers fine

Microsoft Office InfoPath RegForm tool. Version 1.0.0.3
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 2003. All rights reserved.

Building script...
Result script in C:\work\Something\SomethingSetup\Code.js file.

Completed.

Using Visual Studio 2005 I build a MSI to distribute this form out to the users.

Problem 1 - When installing the form on the new Windows 7 machines we get the following message.
&quot; An error occurred while attempting to register the form: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied.&quot; - I click ok, installation completes.

Problem 2 - When attempting to open the form we get the following message.
&quot;Infopath cannot open the following file...
This form is associated with a URN-based form template, which cannot be found on your computer&quot; - I click ok and we cannot open the form.

I&#39;ve read many articles on this site, and went through a process of re-publishing the template in Infopath 2010, and then rebuilding the MSI file. I still get the error when I install the form on the new machine as described in Problem 1, but when I open the form after re-publishing (as full trusted) I get the following message.
“Infopath cannot open a new form. The form template is trying to access files and settings on your computer. Infopath cannot grant access to these files and settings because the form template is not fully trusted. For a form to run with full trust, it must be installed or digitally signed with a ceritificate.” Again to re-iterate the form was re-published as fully trusted.

So as a final step I created a temporary test certificate and republished again, and rebuilt the msi and I still get the install error, but I can finally open the 2003 infopath form in 2010…hooray! BUT…I do not want a certificate because these forms need to be portable able to submit from any machines they are on (assuming it’s a company machine with our security and software etc etc.)

Can these 2003 forms be opened and function in the same way they do today under Infopath 2010?

Re: opening 2003 xml forms in 2010

<p>I&#39;m having the very same problems. We have InfoPath .xml forms created in 2003 -- plus, I&#39;m preparing to train users with materials that were created with either IP 2003 or 2007. Many of the files in question were created by the training company (Element K), not in-house. When I try to open the .xml files with InfoPath 2010, I get the same error (&quot; This form is associated with a URN-based form template, which cannot be found on your computer.&quot;); I have no problems opening an IP template. (I have no problems opening these .xml forms using InfoPath 2007.) My problems are magnified because the training is scheduled to be conducted in the next couple of weeks, and everyone will be upgrading to IP 2010 at that time. So, having a solution soon is essential.</p>
<p>I&#39;m running InfoPath (Office) 2010 on Windows 7 Professional.</p>
<p>Thanks for any assistance you can provide!</p>

Normally they can just double click on the .xml and it&#39;s opened in Infopath 2003. When doing the same with 2010, the following error appears:

Infopath cannot open the following file Report.xml
The form template associated with this form could not be found
More Details: This form is associated with a URN-based form template, which cannot be found on your computer.

Apparently it&#39;s because the built-in form templates of 2003 are removed in 2010. I can&#39;t find a way to convert the files at all. I think they are using the meeting agenda template that&#39;s built into 2003. I&#39;ve tried copying the .xsn to multiple locations in 2010, but still no joy

Can anyone help? The header of the Report.xml file is given below - thanks!
