Trouble pulling data for dropdown list

I created a SP list to use as a lookup in my InfoPath form, to show the names of people available for each date and their contact info. The fields in my SP list are the following:

I've created the data connection in my form field "Name" to query the Name column and filter it by Date (field from list)=Today and value and display are also Name. This is not working.

I believe it to be related to the date format. The Date field in my list column is text , which I thought may have been the issue so I created another column (date and time) and labeled it DateAvailable and selected Date Only as the format. This also is not bringing the people available on that date forward.

I found and tried to use the solution in this post http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/22659/78494.aspx , which was helpful- but not enough for me to resolve. The created date is coming back in this format: 2010-10-05T00:00:00 the date column query appears to be pulling in as just a date- (XML Value) format.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance in getting to accurate format so the dropdown options will fill appropriately.
