It should be quite easy, but there are tutorials online which should help.

The problem with the counter is that you would likely have to define it via rules in the form, before submitting. If you have two people submit the form at around the same time, you could end up with duplicates unless your solution is very careful about this. It is wiser to allow the database table to count, since you won't run into duplicate autoincrement IDs.

Good luck!

Progressive number in the form

Hello,
I want to create a form connected to an Access Database. I need that each form has a "ID progressive number", I mean something like 0001, 0002, 0003... I wouldn't use a counter in the access table because if I delete a row I lose that number and so I risk to have 0001, 0003,0006...
Much better it would be to have a number that starts from 0001 every year, I mean: 20120001, 20120002... and in 2013: 20130001,20130002 (but just if it is not hard to realize!)

Is there some easy solutions? I've just start to use Infopath, I'm very interested in use it but it's quite hard for me and unfortunately there are not good books in my language!
I'm using infopath 2010, no sharepoint, just network to save the forms.

Thank you for your support!

Alessandro
