When you publish, try selecting the publish to network location option and publish to a location on your machine. Then open the .xsn. Exporting as Source files simply expands the template (giving you a ton of fun ways to break it) and I think is not what you want.

This Office Online link refers to IP 2003, but the basic concepts are the same, you may want to give it a quick read.

How to Link InfoPath to simple Access table?

Hi--I've no experience at all with InfoPath or Access, but was given the 2010 editions of both and am going crazy trying to figure out why my simple initial test won't work! Sorry if this is more of an Access issue than InfoPath, but I'd be incredibly grateful for any help or insight anyone can provide.

So what I'm doing is creating a very simple Access Table. Just a couple of text fields like "First Name", "Last Name", "Email". Then I save it to my desktop. Then I open good ol' InfoPath, and select "Database" under "Advanced Form Templates". Up pops the Data Connection Wizard, and I am prompted to Select Database. I steer to the Access form on the Desktop, and the Table and fields all appear in the "Data Source Structure" form. So far so good! So I hit next, and am prompted to enter names for the data connection and the seperate connection for submitting to the data source. I leave the autogenerated connection names in place for both, double check that "Enable submit for this connection" is checked, and then click finish.

Now I have a page with a box saying "Drag query fields here" and another saying "Drag data fields here". On the right side is a table with a folder of "queryFields" and "dataFields", opening either gives me the list of fields from my access database. So I drag the queryFields into the box that says "Drag query fields here" and drag the "dataFields" into the box asking for them.

Then I go over to Publish and Export Source Files to my Desktop. The thing that's frustrating is that so far, this is so easy, I feel like I must be doing it right! I'm just following InfoPath's instructions! And it's acting so far like it just adores Access.

But then, I close out of Access and InfoPath, then open the "manifest" .xsf file on my desktop. It pops up and looks great. So I fill out one or more of the query fields, hit "Run Query" button, and get:

"InfoPath Editor Security Notice" saying "Security Warning: Accessing data across domains is not supported for forms opened from the Internet. This form is located at an Internet location and contains data connections with access data across domains. Accessing data across domains is not supported in forms opened from the Internet."

I click OK and get another pop-up instantly: "Falied connection to data source", saying "InfoPath cannot connect to a data source. Should InfoPath continue trying to connect to data sources for this form?"

The next pop-up is: "Some form data cannot be retrieved because InfoPath is operating in offline mode. Form elements, such as drop-down lists, may be blank. Ensure that you have network connectivity and that InfoPath is in online mode."

I tried changing IE permissions to be sure "Accessing forms across domains" is enabled, but it made no difference. Beside, the Access database I'm trying to hook up with is on my desktop! Like I said, it wouldn't be so frustrating except InfoPath walks me through the process so neatly I feel like it doesn't make sense that it doesn't work!

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this. I hope someone out there can point me in the right direction! Also, alot of these error messages I've Googled and found absolutely no results (Maybe wording is different in new 2010 edition I'm using than past ones), so hopefully other people having the same problems can be steered here...
