It wasn't anything special, just that I kept doing something like a scratched record, or CD. You have to click New Record, then a blank record appears under Run Query, and then put the information that you want to add to the database in the fields under Run Query... I kept putting the information that I wanted to add into the fields under New Record, I mean that would seem to make sense right? I want to add a new record, so put it there? Anyway, then once you put the information that you want to add to your database in the fields under RUN QUERY, then click submit and wala. It has nothing to do with the file format.

Re: InfoPath and adding New Records to an MS Access Table

Thanks for the response Patrick.

I went back and checked, and yes, I have a primary key called Category ID.

But... I noticed something strange. I have Office 2003, but when I create an Access table I see a table in an Access 2000 file format, is this normal? If someone could create a generic table in Access and tell me what it says in the title bar directly above the tool bar, that might help. Granted, it would not resolve the problem, but at least I would know that I am not crazy! Mine says db1: Database (Access 2000 file format), but I have Access 2003. I think 2003 was the first year for InfoPath right, so maybe this is why I am having trouble?

Re: InfoPath and adding New Records to an MS Access Table

Hi Herbetheien,

This is weird. I don't see this when I create a SQL sample form from a database. New Record clears my data fields and Submit works. You should definitely check to make sure you have a primary key. That's the only thing I can think of, but tell us more about what you see and maybe the lightbulb will go off.

Dark in Seattle,

InfoPath and adding New Records to an MS Access Table

Hello InfoPath wizards, I thought that I was ok at InfoPath 2003, but it seems that I cannot figure out the easiest thing to do; add a new record to an access table. I can Query the table and bring up records in the table, but when I (is it submit? or click the New Record button) nothing happens. If I click submit then I get the following error:

"InfoPath cannot submit the form."

"The form does not contain any new data to submit to the data source"

If I click New Record, nothing happens.

What the heck.. I thought it was going to be easy to hook up to an Access database, but I seem to be missing something?

I think I have a primary key in my Access database, since the last row in the table has "(AutoNumber)" which I am guessing creates the primary key.

It seems that everyone can do this but me and I feel sort of left in the dark.
