A formatting command for numbers (especially currencies) would be great.

InfoPath supports currency formatting of fields on display, SharePoint supports currency formatting of colums on display, Excel supports currency formatting of cells on display, but Word does not support currency formatting of content controls on display.

I'm going to emphasize content controls. There is a trick, or two, to format fields and cells in Word for currency formats but these don't work for content controls. The only data type Word content controls support formatting for is dates.

The blog post List fields + Workflow = controled Word document [SIC] outlines what I am doing, though I'd like to skip the intermediary list and workflow step and have qRules write fields directly to the document library. (Document libraries are lists after all. Fingers crossed.)

Yes, I'm holding MS to the marketing pitch of "no code" and "composite" solutions by building mash up applications using MS products.

Re: Currency Formatting with qRules

I don't mean to be oversimplifying. I guess it seems to me that if your IP data is a decimal (formatted as currency) and submits to a currency column in SharePoint....

Wait - I think I get what you are saying now - the issue is from SharePoint to Word? And you are wondering if we have a qRules command that could take a number and format it as currency, then you could submit that to SharePoint so that your number was already nicely formatted. We don't - we have a format date function, but formatting a number had never occurred to me. I'll put in a feature case for the next release - that is a great idea for a command!

Re: Currency Formatting with qRules

It is not
simply a matter of writing a numeric value to a string. I need to add the
dollar sign, thousands separator, round the decimal to varying places, and
indicate negative numbers with parentheses.

Both InfoPath and SharePoint can display somewhat nice looking numbers to the user while the raw data remains behind the scenes, but when the raw values make it into MS Word's content controls the numbers are ugly as there are no formatting options available in Word.

The SharePoint column will be mapped to a MS Word document content control.

E.g. in InfoPath the value is 4999998.52694 and I need to write to SharePoint $4,999,998.53. -5.14300 would be ($5.14). The actual value is used for calculations while the formatted value is user friendly.

Can this be easily done with qRules 4.2? If not, can this be taken as a feature request?
