I just wanted to make sure my 'logic' wasn't flawed in how I was thinking about it.

I figured out the problem. I had another rule that wasn't firing properly and so it was just overwriting the information in the initial section without creating a new one.

That is, the InfoPath form schema (the data source) is the same, no matter if you're using a repeating table or a repeating section.

Let us know what you find in the Error node. If the Insert command is failing, it is most likely recording some information in the Error node. Thanks.

Re: Qrules 'Insert' to Insert new instance of repeating Section

So are you saying that the 'insert' command isn't the right command to use to generate a new instance of a repeating section? If not, what is

I am not sure I got an error in the error node. I will go back and check. As for the other:

If you have a repeating section with fields in it, then logically you have repeating data. However does it require that the data be contained in a repeating table inside the repeating section or is it enough that you have a repeating section?

Scenario:

History view - the first time the form is 'finally' submitted certain data is copied to the fields in the repeating section. I already have it working with a repeating table but want to include more data that would not lend itself to a nice configuration of a repeating table, so I thought a repeating section would be better as I can lay it out how I want. Each successive time the form is 'finally' submitted a new section would be generated that would contain the same data but with different values.

Hence my question, do the field in the repeating section need to be in a repeating table in order for this to be accomplished successfully or is it enough that the section repeats?

Re: Qrules 'Insert' to Insert new instance of repeating Section

Insert allows you to insert rows into a repeating table. For your Question 2, what are you getting in the Error node of the QdabraRules secondary data connection? This might tell us why it's not working.

For your question 1, I guess I'm not understanding the scenario. If you have repeating data, then use a repeating table. If the data is not repeating, then there's no need for a repeater in the form's schema.

Qrules 'Insert' to Insert new instance of repeating Section

I am still very new to Infopath, however I have successfully (Thanks Hillary!!! for the repeating table information and the rest of the team for the branding information) been able to create an awesome form with some repeating table data that is added when the form is submitted. I want to take this a step further and use a repeating section but need to gain some additional insight.

This repeating section will contain history information for a history view. It will have fields that contain the following information - Date, Device, Approved by date, Approved by, Final approval (if necessary), final approval dates and comments.

Question 1: Do the fields that contain this information need to be in a repeating table if there will only be one instance of them in each instance of the repeating section?

Question 2: I tried getting the next instance of the section inserted using the Qrules Insert function using the same syntax that I used for inserting a new instance of my repeating table but it didn't work. What am I missing?

All help is greatly appreciated.
