I found this in qRules and thought it was the answer to my scenario, but I need the ability to save documents to SharePoint and save associated meta data to a doc library too. I can't tell you how disappointed I was to find out it didn't have this feature.

Re: SaveToSharepoint with metadata, is this possible?

Hi,

I'm not sure what you're referring to (as far as out of the box SaveToSharePoint). The command is meant to extract the attachments from the xml and save them out to a separate Document library, thus reducing the xml size. We could consider carrying over metadata as an added feature for a future release, but that's not supported at this time.

You could use SubmitToSharePointList instead. This command will create a SharePoint List item, and will map any number of fields into List columns, including an attachment. If you want more info on this, let us know.

Thanks.

Re: SaveToSharepoint with metadata, is this possible?

Hi Thanks for your reply,

Im supprised that it can not carry meta data over with the document as why wouldnt a user just use the out of the box aspx form to do this otherwise?

i can not see a situation where this SendToSharePoint would easier to use than just editing the upload ASP which in sharepoint 2010 you can do on page (or in designer) any thoughts on how else i can use cascading meta data columns on a document upload?

Re: SaveToSharepoint with metadata, is this possible?

Hi,

I don't believe that the qRules command (SaveToSharePoint) will allow setting other columns in the document library. However, the command does include a parameter that allows you to set the name of the uploaded document (so you don't have the string of numbers before the document name), so at least that solves one issue. Can you give that a try and let us know how it goes?

Thanks.

SaveToSharepoint with metadata, is this possible?

So i finally convinced my boss to buy Qrules and my first task to demonstrate its worth is to create a form that saves an attachment to a SharePoint 2010 document library and fills in the meta data columns ..... and im stuck.

Using the how to videos i have created a form which saves the attachment to a document library and that works (although it puts a string of numbers before the document name?)

Now i have created 2 drop down controls that point to external lists which i have then used infopath to make these cascading (cascading meta data choices is the whole reason im doing this rather than just using the out of the box doc library upload form.)

this is where im stuck and searching the net and this forum hasnt brought back any clear guides on how to systematically set these fields values in the doc library while uploading the document.

Can anyone help me? (im using infopath 2010 and SharePoint 2010)
