I believe if you try to create a folder that already exists, it returns an error indicating as much, but do test as I don't trust my recollection.

According to this post, the UpdateListItems method of the Lists webservice plus the correct CAML can rename - so qRules could help you get there either with SetValue to simplify setting your CAML field values, or possibly by leveraging SubmitToSharePoint list - but the mapping file would have to be hand-crafted - you'd need the folder ID as well in order to update (I've not tried this - these are just suggestions / guesses).

Re: Need to verify that folder exists before Saving Using ChangeSubmitUrl

Thanks for the replys. I am beginning to re-think the entire approach for storing files on these projects. I beieve all I really need to do is rename subfolders within a Document library. Is there a codeless way to do that with qRules and or infopath?

Re: Need to verify that folder exists before Saving Using ChangeSubmitUrl

A bit surprisingly, it seems that there just might be no way to obtain the URL of the current open document, even with code. There may have been some design decision behind that; I'm not sure.

How about a somewhat different approach: Do you have a simple SharePoint list that lists all of your projects and their status? If you had something like that, you could add form logic to automatically check that list to get the status of the document's project, and if it's completed, automatically mark the document as completed when the form loads. Would something like that work for you?

Re: Need to verify that folder exists before Saving Using ChangeSubmitUrl

We implemented file support in qRules v3.4 for local file system and this should work for SharePoint as well.
Thanks for the reply. I guess using the term "save" was incorrect. I actually have the save option disabled. Yes,we use the Infopath Client to fill out forms. The form is submitted to a document library using the qRule ChangeSubmitUrl command. This allows us to submit the xml file to the project's folder.

When the project is "active", employees make changes to the form (updating status, etc) and the form is submitted to the DocLibrary/ProjectSpecificFolderName folder.

When the "Completed" check box on the form is checked (set to "true"), the form data is submitted to the DocLibrary/_completed/ProjectSpecificFolderName folder. The problem is a process issue. The folder and all related project files stored in it gets moved under the _Completed folder by a drag and drop from the SP explorer view. If the "Completed" check box does not get checked after the files are moved, the ChangeSubmitUrl command (Based on form rules) will attempt to submit it ot the original folder location, which no longer exists.

I have been trying to find a codeless way to move the folder and all the files contained in it to the _Completed folder or to simply rename the folder to indicate that the project is complete. If I could do that in Infopath, it would solve my problem as well.

Re: Need to verify that folder exists before Saving Using ChangeSubmitUrl

Are you using qRules?
However, after a project is complete, the files need to be moved to a similar sub-folder of another sub-folder of the current year Document Library, named _Completed. So, when a project is complete, the URL changes from http://<myServer>/<SITE>/2011/<Project-Folder> to http://<myServer>/<SITE>/2011/Completed/<Project-Folder>. I have a check box that the user can check to show project is complete, then my rules will attempt to save the form data under the _Completed sub folder.

My problem is that currently, a clerk will drag and drop the folder, with all its files, to the _Completed folder. Then she must open the form and slelect the "Completed" check box. Sometimes that step does not happen. When another employee opens the form, it trys to save to the old location that no longer exists. So I either need to make sure the folder exists before saving, test for where the form data file was opened from, or even better would be to be able to create the folder on the fly and move the infopath data to that directory and update the save to URL.

Any ideas on how to mistake proof this process?
