Using your example, I'd guess:

concat("FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterOwssvr /filter=listempnumber /value=", .)

The action would be on the field in the form that is going to change (since it is the change of a field that fires a rule) - you'd want the rule on the FormEmployeeNumber field.

Drag your FilterOwssvr data connection onto your form to verify you are getting results.

After you know you have your command right, you can set additional rules on the FormEmployeeNumber field to set other form field values (like the name) with the data returned from your FilterOwssvr data source.

So, what you need to do will require a number of steps (which may be what is confusing you).

Use qRules to return just the list data for the selected employee number

Create other rules to set form values using the returned data in your FilterOwssvr data source

Re: Filter from sharepoint list

Hi Hilary,

Thanks for the help. I'm sure this is a simple task, but I am missing it, and its getting to me.

Lets say the sharpeoint list: 'userdata' has two fields: listempname & listempnumber

I want the user to type in their employee number on the form. The form fields are (FormEmployeeNumber & FormEmployeeName)

1) The user types in their employee Number in the filed FormEmplyeeNumber on the form

2) does there need to be a button to execute the field lookup command?

3) once the employee fills in their FormEmployeeNumber and tabs out of the field, using qrules, the FormemployeeName is filled in

currently I have the action is on the employeeNumber field

concat("FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterOwssvr /filter=FormEmployeeNumber /value=", .) .= FormEmployeeNumber

selected concat from the FX menu, typed "FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterOwssvr /filter=FormEmployeeNumber /value=", and selected the FormEmployeeNumber field to get the '.' at the end.

this is obviously wrong since I do not reference the FormEmployeeName from the form or listempname from the list. Do I set the action on the form field "FormEmployeeName"? would the value then be : concat("FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterOwssvr /filter=listempnumber /value=",FormEmployeeNumber) ?

Thanks again for your help,

/filter is the list field - sounds like you are filtering on the employee number - if that is in your secondary data source in IP, it is everything after ows_

The /value was assuming the rule was being set on the field in the form that the filter should be run for - is that correct in your form? "." is the XPath shorthand to the current node.

Filter from sharepoint list

Hello Support,

I have an infopath form that reads from a list. The list is user data, such as Name, Title, EmpNumber, Address, etc... . I had a few rows for testing but just received the entire document, and converted to a SharePoint list. Now InfoPath is locking up while trying to read in the entire list before doing it's filtering.

What happens is the user types in their employee number for verification and then their address, Title, Name, etc.. are filled in.

I have downloaded the demo version of qRules, and was successful with getting xml data back from owsvr ( https://sharepoint.domain.com/wf/_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=Display&List={344CC859-CF44-4A06-93B7-AFA6BCB1A6F6}&XMLDATA=TRUE )

but I'm having a heck of a time getting a fields to filter on the employeenumber. I'm walking through the tutorial for the drop down boxes. I'm guessing my formula is incorrect.

Formula : concat("FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterOwssvr /filter=Employee Name (Last Suffix, First MI) /value=", .)

Condition : EmpNumber = "10001000" (test employee number in list)

1) is the /filter the name of the list field or the field variable on the infopath form?

2) is /value really just ",.

When I select the field "Name" on the form and go into properties.

I select the data source: FilterOwssvr

In Entries I selected: rs:data/z:row/:ows_LinkTitle

Since the Title was renamed to ' Employee Name (Last Suffix, First MI) ' on the excel import, I'm guessing the first field is still referenced as Title or in this case :ows_LinkTitle as the field Employee Name (Last Suffix, First MI) does not show up in the Entries area

Thanks for your help
