Submiting data from fields of an InfoPath form to a sharepoint library columns

    Dear all,

I am stuck with a problem when submitting a form to a sharepoint library.

I tried with both InfoPath 2003 and SPS 2003 and lately with MOSS and InfoPath 2007.

When I submit the form, the fields that should populate the library get cut from character 255 on.

Though I've google it I could not find any obvious info on this. I don't understand if I am too stupid to oversee a simple solution or if I am the only unlucky guy having this problem.

Any info would be much appreciate.

    Regards,

    Hi,

The sharepoint library promoted column text is limited to 255 characters. Try the following link to change the limitation.

    Hi,

This is just a workaround for your question.
    1. Open Manifest in Visual Studio.
    2. Search for “listProperties”.
    3. Add the “aggregation="plaintext"” for the field you want to show the
    complete text in promoted column.

Note: If you modify this promoted property in the form, the above attribute
will no longer be available for that promoted field. you need to add this
    again.

Thanks for your prompt reply on this. I indeed tried to open the sharepoint site with Visual Studio, but I was unsuccessful (web developer does not allow to open sites from Sharepoint (I did check all the access rights and I have WSS 3.0 runing on the same machine.

Anyway, I tried to open it with SharePoint designer and indeed I managed but
there are maybe 40 entries of listproperties for my list.

Shell I add aggregation="plaintext" on all?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

You need to open the manifest.xsf file in visual studio not the sharepoint site.

manifest.xsf file is present in the solution file  or you can extraxt it from the xsn.

Below are the steps to extract the manifest.xsf file from the ' .xsn' file.

1.Open your ' .xsn' file in infopath designer

    2.Go to File menu

3.Select 'Save As Source File' option

4.Create a folder in local drive and browse to the reated folder

    5.Click Ok

You will find manifest.xsf file in the folder.

    Hello,

I never tried this by using sharepoint designer. But this will work from manifest. Follow the steps which told by Madhuri.

    Anuma, Madhuri,

I do appreciate your help on this. I did the changes as you wrote and... it rocks! Thanks.

Now, I do have a second question. When I submit the fields to SharePoint, when I try to edit the fields in SharePoint, they are read-only. Can we go around this one as well?

    Thanks.

Re: Submiting data from fields of an InfoPath form to a sharepoint library columns

Hi, When you publish your form to document library, after giving the document library name you will get the window to add promoted properties.

    1. In that promote properties window, Select the column/property that you want to edit in the data grid/sheet
    2. click on modify button
    3. Select “Allow users to edit data in this field by using a datasheet or properties page” check box.
    4. Click on ok.
    5. Repeat the above steps for the fields you want to edit in the data sheet.
    6. Publish the form.

Now you can edit these fields in the datasheet.

    Dear Anuma,

This is great. Unfortunatly I found I cannot use it in SPS2003, just in MOSS (or WSS 3.0). With InfoPath 2003 this option does not exist and with 2007, only when publishing to WSS 3.0.

Do you know if I can change the xml in the manifest to make it happen in 2003?

Thanks very much for your help.
