Change view depending on criteria of drop down list

    Hi there,

Ive been working on a particular problem for some time.  I'll spare you the details and just ask one question that's a work around for me.

Is there a way to change a view with a button depending on the values of a drop down list? for example, if the drop down list value is 1 then when the button is pressed you will be directed to View1. If, on the other hand, the value in the drop down list is 2 then you will be taken to View2 by pressing the button.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks in advance for any help

    Hi,

You can achieve this functionality by setting a rule on the button.

    1. Go to button properties.

    2. Click on rules and them click add.

    3. Click Set Condition.

    4. Select the drop down control in the first drop down , is equal to in second drop down, 1 in third drop down.

    5. Click ok then click Add Action.

    6. Select Switch Views in the Action drop down and select the view1 in the View drop down.

    7. Repeat step2 to step6 for different views and conditions.

Thanks again Swathip, you've helped me loads.

One more question about Views. If a form is opened and has two Views. When one View has default values, do these default values still submit to the database even if the View is never "viewed"?

    Hope that makes sense.

     Thanks

    Hi,

Yes, those default values should be submitted to the db.

Just as a clarification -- default values are a field-based setting, not control-based. So the fields, which you see in your data source task pane, have default values, rules, validation and sometimes programming events associated with them. The controls, which you see in a view, on the form canvas, have things like size properties, conditional formatting, text formatting, etc. associated with them. You can have a field with a default value and have no controls for it anywhere on the form.... and the data will still submit to your database....

Re: Change view depending on criteria of drop down list

    Got a bit stuck...

When I double click on the button to go to it's properties and apply the proper conditions, the actions that are provided are:

    "Show a dialog message"
    "Show A dialog expression message"
    "Set a Field's Value"
    "Query using a data connection"
    "Connect using a data connection"
    "Submit using a data connection"
"Open a new form to fill it out"

Basically, doesn't give me the options to Switch Views.

However if I try to apply the rules through Form Properties, it does provide me the option to "Switch Views"-- but when tested, it is unresponsive.

    What can I do?
