Sending Rich Text Between SharePoint and InfoPath - Ugh!

There always seems to be something!

    Facts:

    • SharePoint 2010
    • InfoPath 2010
    • qRules 7.1
    • Entering comments into Rich Text field on InfoPath form and submitting to SharePoint list.
    • Retrieving SharePoint list Rich Text field back into InfoPath form.

    Question:

    • How?  ARGH!

Are you using the RefreshListItems command? If so, you should just be able to mark the field as rich text in your mapping. If not, there is a command that copies rich text.

I'm not using the RefreshListItems command, but maybe I should?  =(

I saw the CopyRichText command, but wasn't sure how to use it.  It looks like I am losing formatting both ways.

    • If I edit the list item and add bullets, they do not render in InfoPath.
    • If I add bullets in InfoPath, they do not pass over to SharePoint.

If I have a Data Source pulling in the rich text field from a SharePoint list, do I use it to copy the text to the InfoPath rich text field?  And do I create a separate field to copy into before submitting back to SharePoint?

Okay, I see in the SharePoint List Tool form where I can mark the field as Rich Text!  Who'd a thunk?  I'll try to use the CopyRichText on the incoming field to see if that works!

I'm not sure if a standard list data connection is going to return the rich text info - a quick test would be to put a calculated value on the form bound to the field in the secondary data source and preview to see if the bullets (or whatever the RT formatting is) shows up. But yah, if what you really want is for items in your form to update if the list item changes, I'd just map as rich text in the mapping and use the Refresh command.

Well, I put a calculated value on the form bound to the field in the secondary data source, and the bullets were not there.  =(

THEN, I dragged the field from the secondary data source onto the form and previewed again.  THE BULLETS WERE THERE!  =)

So-ooo, I used the CopyRichText and it worked like a charm!  WOOHOO!!!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Oh, excellent - I knew that it would display if it had rich text, but couldn't remember which control it did not display correctly in - I guessed wrong. :) Thanks for the update!
