Hi,

I have a list item that saves based on a title consisting of time and date. The data is being saved in a list and NOT a library so there is no prevent overwrite facility. (I believe that is correct?)

How do I force a list item to save as a new item if the title is different? I have Qrules.

Can this be done outside of Qrules and/or can it be done using Qrules or is it not possible?

Hi Barry,

When using qRules' SubmitToSharePointList command, the presence or absence of the list ID is what determines if the list item is overwritten or a new one created.

So this means: if your form has the List ID (and it's included in the mapping file), then the command looks for that list ID and overwrites it.

If there's no List ID in the mapping, the command will always create a new item.

If the list ID is included in the mapping, but the InfoPath form field that stores the ID is blank, then a new item is created.

I am not using qrules at the minute as it is a simple form but I just want to stop overwriting. i.e. that a new item is created when an existing form gets a new title.

Do I have to use qrules or is there another way?

 Good day. I would like to inquire something about SubmitToSharePointList. Below is my scenario.

1. I have an InfoPath form then on submit, I would like to create a list item entry using one of the fields on my infopath form ( it is a user ID, example abc123).

2. Then when I open again a new form, if the same user id (abc123) is present on the mapped field, is there a way to just overwrite the existing user id created in number step number 1 (first form had been submitted)?

Hi Rommel,

Each SharePoint list row has an ID (go to your list settings, under views click All Items > check ID > click OK). This is what you will need to declare/specify whenever you decide to update a SharePoint list - assuming you have an ID field mapped on your form. The SubmitToSharePointList command should be able to update whichever row desired as long as the corresponding ID is declared before submitting. Hope this helps.

 Thank you for the advice. Just to add up, I want to inquire if a list item with ID=1 that had been created when I first submit an InfoPath form can be overwritten when I submit another form(not the form that created the list item with ID=1)? Thank you..

If the ID is blank, a new entry will be created. If the ID has been declared, the SubmitToSharePointList will update the corresponding fields on that particular row (overwritten). If the ID declared does not exist, an error will be returned. You may want to check this blog for more info:
