Users sporatically getting an error when trying to open an InfoPath form published to SharePoint

We currently use WSS 3.0 SharePoint for our intranet.  We are also using Office 2010.  Sporatically users are hitting the following error: "This form cannot be opened because it requires the domain permission level and it currently has restricted permission.  Contact he form author to resolve the issue." when they try to open a form which has been published to SharePoint.  It isn't every user, it isn't every form, and it's sporatic to where the user can open the form one day and maybe later on the same day they cannot.

Our forms are published one of two ways... 1) We say to publish to a network location and put in our URL to the SharePoint document library where the majority of our forms are stored   or   2) We say to publish to a SharePoint Server and put in the URL to the specific form library where that form gets submitted into when it is filled out.

We've seen the error occur in both situations.  So far the resolution to the problem has been to completely delete browsing history within IE and then reboot the computer immediately afterwards.

Looking for explanations of why this is happening or if there is something we need to be doing differently when publishing our forms.

    Hi-

    Here are some thoughts:

    • Are all the machines joined to the same domain?
    • Why do the forms have restricted permissions? Is there something that prevents the form's security be set to Domain level permissions?
    • Check your internet explorer settings. InfoPath uses these when checking permissions. The server or site should be in the intranet or trusted security zone and check the advanced setting dealing with cross domain security, etc. If using a fully qualified domain name, make sure you have both FQDN and the short alias in the trusted sites zone.
    • Does the issue happen when the user goes to the library and clicks New?

    To answer your questions...

    • All computers are using the same domain.
    • On the Security and Trust tab, all forms have the checkbox selected for 'Automatically determine security level (recommended)'.  This is the default and we have never changed it on any forms...not to say we couldn't remove that checkbox and strictly choose Domain.
    • In Internet Explorer, our trusted sites are controlled through Group Policy from our Corporate company.  Our intranet site is within that list.  We cannot even change the values on our own machines.
    • The issue sometimes also happens if the user goes into the library and clicks New.  Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

I guess I would test by using a form that has the checkbox for 'Automatically determine security level (recommended)' unchecked, and Domain selected instead. Could you try that?

I just took one of our forms and changed it from 'automatically determine security level (recommended)' to just the Domain radio button.  This didn't resolve the issue either.  I was actually unable to open the form via a direct link to the template myself...either way that it was published.  I can go directly to the form library and click New to get it to open though.

    Ernesto,

I too am having the problem.  It seems to me that it's a permissions issues on the local drive.    I had our Network Admin log in and try to use the form and he has no problem because his c:/users/"username"/appdata folder is read/write, but I don't have admin rights to my local machine.    I have been looking in infopath for how I can point the path to go to the network instead of the local machine.  Is this possible?

I'm not sure.  We've still never found a fix for this issue.
