    Using XML to reserve space

    Hello,

I am brand new to IP, yet have been tasked by my business to create a form that uses an xml file as a datasource to book and reserve placements. Don't know if this can be done, and am looking for direction as to what I will need to learn in order to do something like this if it is possible. My form will be distributed internally and I will be able to put the xml on a sharepoint web site.

Let me know if you need more information.

    Thanks.

Hi! What do you mean by book and reserve placements? What are placements? Do you simply need to have users fill out a form and submit the xml to SharePoint, or is there something more involved going on?

To get started, may I suggest the InfoPath training labs? Here's a list of all of them -- 2003 and 2007. Going through some of the labs will help you understand basic InfoPath concepts, so you'll be able to decide if it is the right solution for your project.

     Hello,

I hope to use an IP form as a sort of reservation system. Think of a hotel, a person selects the date that they want and the hotel books a room for that time. I work in the newspaper industry and we have sales reps who sell advertising space based on a date, a page position and what newspaper they want to run in. They currently use Excel, but I like the look of IP better and the concept of using the xml that is generated to feed into Oracle, our reservation software.

Thanks for the link to the labs, I working on going through them.

You can definitely do something like this with InfoPath. The labs should help you get started, and forum can help when you get stuck.
