    Grouped by displayed records

    Hi All,

I have been looking around for now sometime and I desperate to find a way to do the following.

I have my data in sharepoint lists and I would like my users are able to drill down from 'high level' to 'detailled level' (and reverse) like it is done in sharepoint views when I use the "group by" feature (please see attached).

I am wondering to know how to do this in infopath forms (likely by the mean of some repeating tables and formatting rules) but I must agree that I am stuck.

    The reasons are two:

    * sharepoint views limit group by to 2 levels of grouping and i need more

    * Sharepoint views are ugly and I want to enrich them with infopath.

Please note : I am not a developper, I hope this can be achieved with 0 code !!!

     Thank you in advance

    Claude

Hi & welcome - this gets a little tough w/out code. Usually, I'd create a main data source that has the structure I need, with nested repeating groups, for example, to get the layout I want and then use an XSLT to transform the list data and copy it into my main data source. That makes it easier.

You can maybe get something looking the way you want with preceding sibling formulas, but you'll have to have your data sorted appropriately for that to work, and I think that the list data connection will only let you sort by one field. That means your default list view would need to be sorted by the things you want to group on to ensure it is in the right order.

Thank you Hilary. I fought a bit because i have not been able to find quickly detailed documentation on the preceeding/following-sibling formula but finally i succeeded to do something a bit "sexy" - at least that fit my need. the time for me to clean it up (and anonymize) and i'll attached it to this post for others. thanks bunches. Jeff
