Hi everyone. This is my first post so I apologize if this has been asked before.

I am really having a tough time with trying to get as sum cost based on a category.

Below is an example of the categories I have, the field name is ExpenseCategory in a repeating table. Value is the first field and the second is the display name

01 - Mileage -- Meals

01 - Mileage -- Lodging

02 - Dues -- Fees or Dues (Non License)

03 - etc ...

Then I have an ExpenseCost that goes with each entry.

What I'd like to do is provide a summary view that shows the following:

01 - Mileage Total sum of 01 - Mileage

02 - Dues Total sum of 02 - Dues

03 - etc ...

I do not know how to do this. I did some reading and there were some examples with various ways to accomplish it but each example errors when I changed it to my field names, etc.

I would really appreciate any help.

 I'm attaching a couple of things, one is the screen shot you requested and the second is an example that I found while researching that I cannot seem to recreate and I don't understand why.

Here is the screen shot.

Here is the example I found that is what I want to accomplish on a different view.

You'll see that there is a detail repeating table then a Summary table.  The Summary table is what I need on a different view for another department to process from.

Hi everyone,

I've been racking my brain to try to get the example to work in my form.  I thought that maybe a screen shot may help.

I've got every formula, every rule, all formatting accounted for, but It's not doing what I want it to.  The screen shot you see is actually my attempt of creating the first summary table with only the two fields and then creating another summary table off the first summary table to better mimic the example.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to update this thread - we got this squared away - just needed to add the conditional formatting to the table row to hide the preceding-sibling if the they were the same category, and set the formula for the summary of expenses to use the absolute XPath to the cost.
