    Summary view

     Hi,

I am a very new newbie to infopath. I  am using InfoPath 2013. I am trying to construct a form to create a scope of works for builders to complete  renovations in aged care units. The building managers will complete the form on their tablets and submit it to the builder. The form will be located on a shared drive and not on sharepoint. The form is a series of optional sections ie a demolition section, carpenter section, electrician section, plumber section etc. All these sections  contain numerous check boxes, drop down lists and text boxes. I am trying to create a summary view that only contains the fileds that have been filled out as there will potential be a lot of fields not filled in. A summary view will make the form shorter and easier for the builder to understand the works that are required to be completed. I understand the process for making a second view of the default view, but can't figure out how to create rules for each control to hide the fields that are blank. I am working in InfoPath 2013

Can you please help?? I am a newbie and would require the answer in its simplest form.

Is it also possible to increase the text size of the hint for the optional section? It is very small.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance for you help.

     Regards,

Hi - you can just add a rule to each control to hide it if the field is blank - your controls in your summary view can be bound to the same fields in your "regular" view. If the control is not a type that can be hidden, you can put it in a section - those can be hidden. Also, you might want to use calculated values to display your data - those automatically won't show if they are blank.

Increasing the text size for the hint for the optional section is hard. You have to save your form as source files and manually change the XSL, I would think. How about just adding a label underneath the optional section that has larger text?

     Hi Hilary,

Thanks very much for your reply and taking the time to reply. I appreciate  the advice you have given me. . I would like to explore the idea of using calculated values to help hide the blank checkboxes. If possible can you please briefly explain how I would do this as I haven't used these previously.

Thanks very much for you time.

I must not have been clear - you can't use a calculated value to hide a blank checkbox - calculated values display things like the results of a formula.

However, you can put a section on your form - it can be bound to the same field as the checkbox - and hide it if blank. I'm attaching a sample form. Right click the link and save the file locally. Right click the saved file and select design to open in design mode - then you can preview to test it out.

     Hi Hilary,

Thanks very much for the sample form. It allowed me to see how to set up the summary form and use sections to hide checkboxes that hadn't been ticked. Thanks for taking the time and effort to help me. Regards, Locky
