how to change multi-select to be blank value by default in infopath 2010

I have an infopath 2010 form that is defaulting to check the first item in the list. I'm needing all items to be 'unchecked' by default. I've changed the default value in both the sharepoint list settings, and in the infopath template to be blank but it still checks the first item by default. Any reason why this happens? Is there a way around it?

Try removing the default value node from the MSLB control.  In 2010 go to Data tab -> Default values -> uncheck the node that the MSLB control is bound to.  Hopefully that will do the trick.

Thanks sooo much, looked everywhere for this!  I had a multi-select list in an InfoPath 2010 form  where I want to allow users to input a custom value after a list of values I created, and the custom value was automatically checked when viewing the form in "View mode" in InfoPath.
