Infopath form data to Oracle or IBM Database; or Recreate Form Using ASP.NET or JAVA

    Team,

    I need help.

    Background:

We have a developed and deployed a highly successful multi-page reporting tool using Infopath 2010 forms (non web-based form) and the organization wants to understand how it can be transferred over for IT to manage for the enterprise.

The Infopath form (a reporting tool) includes over 200 fields, and there are 138 pages of "Rules Inspector" configuration content but there is not any custom program code.

They do not envision Sharepoint as being the backend for the data for a large enterprise application.

They envision the data being sent to an Oracle or IBM database (for whatever reason IT does not consider Sharepoint as the enterprise data repository they want to use).

Request for Assistance: I need detailed documentation to help me put together a documentation detailing the potential courses of action and related Pros/Cons of being able to:

    1. Most easily duplicate the Infopath form in ASP.NET or JAVA (Pros and Cons of ASP.NET vs JAVA) so they can potentially use it with their Oracle or IBM database.

    2. Is it possible, and would it make sense to keep using the Infopath form and somehow use a web service or other strategy so that the data is stored on an Oracle or IBM Database?

        A. Specifically I need to know the pros and cons of each and what is involved in getting this to work and are there any examples out there or white papers.

You can also email me directly at [email protected]

    Thanks.

    Hi Mike,

    1. Qdabra Software provides support and accelerators to convert InfoPath forms to ASPX.  We have done this many times.
      • Pros: faster than InfoPath form services (for large forms)
      • Cons: development time and maintenance cost
    2. DBXL Web service maps data to SQL and SQL can map data to Oracle using SSIS or DTS jobs
      • Pros: very inexpensive and reuses existing form
      • Cons: need to install a Web service

    Thanks,

    Patrick
