Changing the value of an existing SharePoint list row/column

     Hello,

I'm developing a client-based weekly project status report form for InfoPath 2007 and SharePoint 2010. I'd like to update an "Hours Worked" field for a project that does not just update the existing value with the content from the form but takes the existing value from the SharePoint list and adds the value from the form. The desired workflow is that a team member would fill out a form showing hours worked that week (a handful of hours against different projects is probable). Upon submission, the should both save to the appropriate library as well as add the individual weekly totals of time spent on projects to the project total in the secondary SharePoint list (e.g. if there were 100 hours already charged against the project, a weekly submission including an entry of 5 hours should set the hours worked column to 105).

Any pointers to how this could be performed (does qRules make this possible/easier?) would be terrific. Thanks!

    Hi David,

    Thanks for the excellent question.

Jo-Anne Alfafara did a webinar in January showing how to map tasks in a form to a task list in SharePoint:

We also did two webinars focusing on dashboards in February and March:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fv-J8Qm4UeY&list=PL581899A129522F53

These three webinars (and the accompanying samples) all show how to map your InfoPath form data to a SharePoint list using CAML (out-of-box). qRules will make it slightly easier to map and much easier to maintain the mapping. qRules also supports round-tripping values to lists and mapping to multiple lists.

We're actually planning a Webinar for this summer that will show how to do project management using InfoPath forms and lists - i.e. your specific scenario. I'm guessing this will be in August, so stay tuned.  If you get your sample working using qRules and let us showcase it in the webinar, we'd be happy to provide a free qRules dev license for you.

    Good luck,

Thanks, Patrick. I was able to get this to work with qRules. :)
