    Grabbing The Current Month Number

    I'm using InfoPath 2007

I need to get the current month each time the form is opened.    I put textbox on the screen, set its data type to "Whole Number (integer)" and set its value to:   substring(today(), 6, 2)

If I hit "Preview" it works just fine, and the number 5 is displayed (because this is May and that is the 5th month)

However, when I publish the form and open it, the textbox is empty?

    What am I missing?

When you publish the form, what value appears in your SP column?

    That is also blank.

I think it might be useful to mention that these forms were previously published without the textbox that grabs the month number.       If I create a new document in the library, which uses my InfoPath form, the month number is present.   But, it isn't updating all of the existing forms like is does when I make other types of changes and republish.

If you open up an old form in InfoPath not IE are you given an option to update the design? I know this happens in 2010. Why not create a dummy field and publish it with a new column to SP, then see what happens?

No.   This doesn't happen in 2007.
