Hello Friends, I'm designing a Infopath form where the user is been given a Template and is allowed to enter only in the textboxes or the rich text boxes. I want to validate on the Rich Text Boxes by their size, by the number of Characters and even want to show the word count in a label or textbox of the richText Box as he keeps filling the RTB. I'm really confused to find a solution where i can fit all these 3 requirements. I tried to put some rules to the RTB's but still not able to restrict the Users fully. Do we need to write some code behind to validate or can it be done using OOTB Can any one pls pls pls help me in finding a solution for this as it is an urgent requirement.

The rich text box does not have the ability to enforce a character limit the same way a text box can.

You could try some validation such as string-length(.) > 100, then show a validation error.

As far as counting words, I've never seen this before. Maybe some code will be needed. Not sure though.

 Thank u for the quick response. As u have mentioned i have tried this rule string-length(.) > 100 but it is not restricting the user to eneter Characters after 100,

And Can we Validate on the Size and the characters through code, might be using OnChangeEvent,OnValidateEvent... etc.,

and also want to show the word countdown as the user eneters characters in RTB.

A validation rule won't restrict the user but it will enforce validation, and the field will be labeled in red, warning them. All rules/validation only happen after the user tabs out of the field or uses the mouse to click away from the field.

A lot can be accomplished via code. I'm sorry, but I'm not the person to help with that.

Hi,

To find the word count or number of characters in text box or RTB try adding a new action rule. Check if that control is not empty, then set a field's value to string-length(.).

I have tried it and it works perfectly fine.
