What type of form is this?

    The most basic scenario is:

    1. Create the list and add the columns.

    2. Click on Customize Form in the List and modify the view.

    3. Save and Publish the form back to your list.

If you don't want to use a SharePoint List form, please explain your scenario and we'll provide more advice. Thanks.

I would like the user to type in a some information in a Infopath form (i.e. Name, Date, Product Needed). Once the user advances to the next form I would like the date the user inputted to automatically populate into a Sharepoint list that is already established. I hope that helps. Thank you.

Ok, the first step then is to create a SharePoint List, add the columns you require (Name, Date, Product Needed) and test that form to ensure it's working as desired. Then add a couple of test items.

Step 2 would be to design a second form that reads the data from that list. But we'll need to have step 1 completed before the SharePoint list data can be read via a data connection.
