SharePoint Form Library and infopath form

I am creating an internal purchase request (IPR) form for my company.

I have created a form library, then I created an InfoPath form that will populate the column in the form library. In the InfoPath form there is a dropdown box showing what stage IPR is at. I have learned that a three-state workflow can be initiated by a new item (which that is what I want) and it uses items in a drop down box to initiate the next and final stages. I have learned that the workflow (for a form library) can use dropdown boxes that were created in the SharePoint form library but the dropdown boxes I have created in the InfoPath form will not be recognized in the workflow setup. So my question is:

How can I get three-state workflow to work off a dropdown list in the InfoPath form (In a form library) or how can I create a dropdown box in a SharePoint form library and have it recognizable in the InfoPath form?

    Thank you

    Hi VanMieghem,

If I'm not mistaken, I think you can't customize a three-state (SharePoint out-of-the-box) workflow to use the fields in an InfoPath form.

If you're using InfoPath, I'd suggest using SharePoint designer instead to create the workflow - it's free to download. You'll need to promote the fields when you publish it to the library and they'll show up in SharePoint Designer.

    Hope that helps,

You can create a site column in SharePoint of type Choice, and then promote the field from the InfoPath form, making sure to select your InfoPath field and then select the site column it should map to.  By checking the 'Allow users to edit data in this field by using a datasheet or properties page', the field can be edited in SharePoint and the value will get pushed back into the InfoPath form.
